Send us your Giant Tiger Stories!

When we were young (5 of us) our mom always shopped at GT. That was from the mid sixies on...always found good bargains...and now in 2010, she is 84 and she still shops at GT and of course we do too. The first store in Ottawa (as far as i know) was in the Byward Market on York St and it is still there. The amount of times that we have gone to GT, then and now, we have met and made friends. Great place to go...we highly recommend it. I'm only able to shop in Giant Tiger whenever I visit family & friends in Canada. I seem to spend hours just walking around AND picking up very good bargains! Love it!

I know the grocery manager at my Giant Tiger location, Lindsay, and I must congratulate him and he should be acknowledged for keeping such a well-kept store. Not only is the store spotless, well organized with fabulous employees, but also he is always there to lend a helping hand and make sure the aisles are well stocked. On a couple of occasions I have gone to this location and when the item I was looking for was not on the shelf, Lindsay had his employee check in the back to see if they had this particular item. Then if they were out of stock, he would inform me as to when the next shipment was coming in. Now is that not top notch or what? I think if Lindsay and his store employees were judged by their service and quality of work they would be worth a MINT and take the cake too. Unfortunately these days staff are not recognized for their quality of work, it is just taken for granted.

I highly recommend more people shop at this location for the excellent customer service, expertise and going above and beyond the call of duty. Also, I have noticed when I walk into this location there are always buggies and baskets available. Most stores you have to go looking for one, never at this location and that shows concern and again caring for the customers. The store is kept spotless and every employee I have dealt with at this location gives me a warm friendly smile and helps out. I know this comes naturally anyway, but not everyone is like that and again that is Lindsay looking after his staff and I think that the staff is lucky to have Lindsay and he is lucky to have such a fabulous staff and commemorated for a such a well kept store, no wonder its always so busy.

My wife and I spend about $600 a month in the Acton store and the reason is the savings. I have checked for the same products in Sobeys and Zellers and we would be spending close to $800 per month. But what really impresses Debbie and me is the staff is always willing to help customers – not because they have to, but because they want to. This shows me Head Office knows how to hire their Managers. So I say again Giant tiger, thank you.

A heartwarming Giant Tiger story.
I was in Giant Tiger, Lakewood the Thursday before Easter. On my way to the Express Check-out there was an elderly gentleman sitting on his walker in the middle of the aisle. I didn't know if he was waiting in line to pay or just standing in the middle of the aisle. I checked to see that he didn't have any items to purchase and went and stood in the line. As I was standing there, the cashier (Cathy) called 'Customer Assistance to Express' and a young man by the name of Cody came to the front. As the young man approached he saw the elderly gentleman and he said "Hey Wes, are you here to do your shopping? I'll just go get a cart and be right back" Wes nodded to the young man and when he returned said "Ok buddy, (as Cody patted Wes on the back) let's get going. Where do you want to start today?" Wes very slowly got to his feet, adjusted his clothing and started pointing to the items he wanted. I didn't hear Wes say anything so I don’t know if he had the ability to verbally communicate or not. As I was standing there watching this unfold, I was overcome with tears. Recently experiencing elderly parents losing their mobility and dependence, this really touched a chord in my heart. This is how I wish every elderly person would be treated, with respect and dignity. Wes clearly appreciated the service he was receiving - as he caught me watching this unfold he had a twinkle in his eye and a small smile on his lips. In today's retail environment, finding a clerk to assist you when you're able bodied is a rarity, but to see people come together to assist an elderly gentleman in such a caring, respectable manner was truly a sight to behold. I'm sure that the people around me were wondering why I was crying, but I didn't really care. As I walked out of the store, I could hear Cody in the background, asking "What else do you need buddy?" This was an experience I will not soon forget. Thinking about it still brings me to tears. I had to share this with you.

I live in Pembroke, where we have the Biggest GT Store in Canada! I can’t say enough about the exemplary level of customer service there as well as the ever-changing products. Our store has recently been revamped and the layout is beautiful! Such a selection of everything from bedding sets, candles, rugs, food, clothing. And the prices are always most reasonable. I am happy to spend my money at an all-Canadian store where my business is appreciated and any member of the staff always goes out of their way to assist customers, pleasantly and efficiently. Bravo, Pembroke Store!! And a special mention about Rick Gervais, the always congenial and helpful Manager, who is never rushed and always ready to help in any way he can.

I am a great fan of Giant Tiger. I was calling Giant Tiger, “ The GT Boutique” way back in the 70’s because my family thought it was the Cheap store and didn’t want their friends to know that their mom would shop for their clothes in a cheap store. Now in the 2000’s my children are shopping for their children’s clothing in the "GT Boutique" and thank me for keeping them interested in shopping in such a great store with so many bargains, for such reasonable prices. I just want to say thank you for such a wonderful store.

Giant Tiger in Espanola is the best store in the entire town. I shop there every day and I always find what I need. The staff is great, the people are friendly and good at their jobs they always remember that I don’t have a car and make sure to double bag my groceries for me so that the bags won’t rip on the bike ride home! Since this GT finally got a produce section I am in heaven! I don’t have to bike all across town to get what I need, my friendly neighbourhood GT is just around the corner with everything I need. I always tell everyone about the awesome clothes at this store, and the prices are the best. The sale rack is my saviour! Most of my clothes have been purchased from GT you can’t beat the prices anywhere. Nowhere else can I get great outfits for under 10 bucks. I always make fun of my friends when they say they paid $20 for this shirt or $50 for these jeans elsewhere. When I say my jeans cost $7 and my shirt cost $3 they don’t believe it!! Keep up the great work Giant Tiger is the best thing to ever happen to this town!

I have known about Giant Tiger stores for 20 years but only recently been to shop at one. I was was very pleasantly surprised by a number of things: the nice music, the excellent service, the jewelry boutique where I had an expensive watch repaired, and of course, I did some shopping at very good prices! I will make GT part of my weekly shopping excursion!

What a great store where we can find everything we need! I love going to Giant Tiger: it’s inexpensive and it’s great for everyone. I would however like for you to add a coffee shop to your stores so we can take a coffee break and then continue shopping. I absolutely love love love this store! Big thanks!

We stopped in 5 minutes before the store closed looking for balloons for my son's birthday the next day, (kind of last minute I know) We looked around quickly knowing we only had 5 minutes but couldn't find any. We found a store associate named Charity and she was so pleasant. She looked where balloons were normally kept and didn't find any and asked us if we could wait she would go look somewhere else. As it turned out all she could find were some leftover Canada day balloons so we took them. We told her how friendly she was and she said thank you. I know the poor girl had probably just worked all day and was looking forward to getting home but if I didn't know any better I would have said she just walked in the door and we were her first customers. She was so helpful and so cheerful even at the end of her shift. What an excellent example of great customer service!

Just a note on behalf of a cashier at the GT Stittsville store. I'm a regular shopper there (love the prices and the products!) and I have come to know the different cashiers and customer service helpers. Most times I don't really notice the job that a cashier does, as long as they don't take too long and are polite I'm happy. There are a lot of good cashiers who work at Stittsville GT, Neda, however, stands out for me. She is always fast, courteous, knowledgeable, and professional. No matter how long the line is, she never seems to fluster too much, she just speeds up and starts putting the groceries through the scanner like a super-hero! It's really impressive! At this point I look for her when I enter the store, because I know that I will be in and out of there quickly, and she will answer any questions I have in a friendly professional manner.

This letter is to inform you of an excellent employee that you have in your office. I called your store this morning looking for a product that had been in one of your stores and I was trying to locate another one somewhere within our local area. I described the item and she immediately went to work trying to help me find one. She was very cordial, alert and had tremendous people skills. It seems these days that most of those skills have gone by the wayside when it comes to serving customers. This girl even said that she would check the store on Walkley Road when she got her lunch break. Remarkably she phoned me back to let me know her finding. I did not locate the item yet, but I am still hoping. This person found a similar item available on Ogilvie Road but is not sure it is the same item. She told me if I check it out and it is not the same and if I can find a bar code of the one I want she would try to help me locate one. You have in your midst someone who is very valuable to your company and she should be treasured. I am sure you have dealt with many employees over your career and have noticed that these kinds of employees are very difficult to find in this day and age. Treasure her. Avid supporter of the Giant Store in my hometown of Morrisburg Ont. This town was so fortunate to have this store move in to our lovely town about 12 yrs. ago. Before that I'd make special out of my way stops out of town to go to a Giant Tiger store. Since then your varieties, especially in the food and general products, have expanded. I make this a very much of a regular stop even if it's just to check out any in store specials that may catch my eye. When the time rolls around that Giant Tiger has any "Special Contests" or promotions it brings me back even more often. Please keep up the good work.

My wife and I have been shopping at Giant Tiger regularly for over 14 years. Over the past few years, and a lot just lately, we have noticed a lot of improvements in merchandise. We are especially happy with the addition of groceries. I just wanted to send this e-mail to say that your store's improvements are not going un-noticed. Now with your survey on clothing, I think you are on the right track. I always support your Embrun, Ontario outlet, and really enjoy the courteous staff. My wife is disabled (she walks with a cane - has a very bad back), and I never have to worry about her carrying anything heavy from the store: your people take care of her. I am a big fan of sending good news (and not just complaining).

I discovered Giant Tiger one day several years ago in Parry Sound, Ontario. I fell in love instantly! I soon discovered several places that I frequented including the Brampton location and Mississauga. In every store I have visited, I am always impressed with the excellent customer service, your amazing prices and the fantastic clothing! I kept an eye on when a store would open in Toronto. When the Kipling location opened, I was there on the opening day with my family and was one of the first customers to enter the door. I have received several gift certificates for Christmas and am waiting for the weather to get better so I can GO SHOPPING! Love you guys! So glad you're Canadian!!

I would just like to compliment the management and staff of GT on Tecumseh Rd in Windsor Ont. Since the renovations I enjoy going through the store even more so, the store is much more spacious and well organized. It is so much easier to get down isles and such. I would wish that they do add more bigger women’s clothing as this is where I seem to find nice shirts that I can purchase to wear to work. As for children’s clothing the prices cannot be beat. Again job well done and congratulations to the most friendliest staff, this is why I keep returning to this store.

I want to tell you how delighted I am with the way Carrie Orefici (I think from your Montreal office?) went out of her way to get me the product I needed. Everything about my contact with this young woman has been positive: the communication by e-mail and telephone, her follow-up, and the arrangements she made for me to get much needed boots which had been a product in your store three years ago and cannot have been all that easy to locate some time later. It is possible that any of your employees might have done as good a job. But I think perhaps I just happened onto one of those people in our world who do things the way they SHOULD be done. I am happy with my boots. I am happy with the service. And I am telling everyone that there are people in the Giant Tiger organization who go the extra mile.

I would just like to tell you that I have been a customer at your Embrun, Ont. store since the day it opened. It was quite amusing as there were many customers viewing and the cash registers were very busy. In those days it was cash or credit card payment only. The young cashier was very quick and efficient, and carefully checked the card details. When she read the name of my husband - Mr. William Reid - she immediately blushed and said are you the wife of the owner of the Giant Tiger stores. Of course, I had to admit - "No, but I wish I was!" Of course that was many many years ago, but I must congratulate you on the improvements made and many customers have turned to you as a result of the convenience of shopping under one roof for groceries and clothing at reasonable prices through these difficult days. Young women with young children have often commented what a joy it is to shop under one roof without having to travel too far from home without having the hassle to pop into too many stores for various items.

I would just like to say that the St. Catharines stores are the best! I am a Tiger Junkie...and am wondering if I had any more money to spend would I not spend it in one of your 2 fine stores. I buy my clothes and everything else there. I'm sure I'll have to start up a support group for those similarly addicted... GGGGRRREEEAAATTT Job Tiger!

I just wanted to write and compliment you on the Kennedy Rd, Scarborough location. This location has been my first Giant Tiger experience and I have to say I'm very impressed. I have visited several times since the store has opened and always find something fun to buy for very little money. Usually clothes. I find the store very clean and quiet and the staff are always very friendly. I wanted to write, in particular, to mention Peggy, the lady who manages the ladies' change rooms at this location. She is very organized and polite. I find her very friendly and she clearly takes pride in her work. She shows great patience; even with some "trying" customers. I hope that she is recognized for her great service. So once again, just wanted to say thanks for opening a great store!

We were having our five minute meeting on Friday at the front of the store and a gentleman approached me. He asked if I was the store manager. I answered that I was. In front of the associates he stated "You have the most friendly staff and I thought I should let you know this. I manage a business across the road and my staff should take lessons from you guys. I just want to say how pleased I was with one of the employees at your Bradford store. His name was Carlos, and it was Friday, March 6th, 2009. I was looking for rain boots in size six and I knew he did not work in the section, but I asked him anyway. It was a busy night, but without any hesitation he went to look in the front and the back of the store to see if they had any. He said “I’m sorry but we don’t have any in size six”, then I asked if it was much trouble to call the Newmarket store and he said “Sure, no problem”. Luckily enough, the Newmarket store had them in the right size. It’s people like him, that is going to bring me back to that store and tell all my friends about how nice and easy it’s to shop at Giant Tiger and how the employees take time to help us find what we are looking for even if it’s a busy night.

Late last summer, I was driving my husband and daughter to our daughter's rented room in Nepean, Ontario. As we were rolling along, I asked, "Did you remember to pack towels?" "Oh no!" she cried. She had planned to take a shower that night, too. We were approaching Casselman, Ontario, and I said, "Well, this looks like a good-sized town. Perhaps we can find a store that sells towels here. Don't panic, Sweetie, everyone forgets something now and then." After we had turned off at the Casselman exit, my husband happily announced that he had spotted a Giant Tiger store there. We whooped with joy, knowing that we would find anything and everything we needed, at great prices. I asked my daughter if she had packed a warm jacket for fall. No, she only had the thin denim jacket that she was wearing. We found a great jacket and big, fluffy towels, plus some other items we needed at home, all at the usual great prices. We love Giant Tiger, its friendly staff, good store layout, as well as the terrific bargains. Now I always stop at the Casselman store on the way to visit our daughter in Nepean.

In the summer, I organize a golf tournament. Giant Tiger is the first store I go to for my gifts. Not only is the selection wonderful, and the pricing reasonable, but you cannot beat the service I receive from the employees there. I also organize a Christmas Dance. This year I made a last minute decision to play a game at the dance which required 52 gifts. It was a last minute decision. Giant Tiger was going to be my deciding factor if I played the game, or not. I phoned and spoke with Rob. I asked Rob if he could put together 52 gifts and I would stop after work, pick them up and pay for the gifts. Without hesitation, Rob said he would do that for me. When I arrived at the store, Rob had everything together for me, checked the glassware to make sure nothing was broken, and even took the time to help me take everything out to my car. I could not thank him enough, and all he said was “Thank you for your business.” There was no question which store I would call and ask for help. Thank you for making my job less stressful.

On the evening of December 23rd I rushed into Giant Tiger for some badly needed candy canes for a Christmas recipe. Being in a rush, I asked an employee where the candy canes were. She said there were none left and offered me a few she had in her pocket. She asked if that was enough and I replied that it wasn’t but I appreciated her offer and turned to leave. She asked me to wait and went back to her lunch room and returned with a huge handful to help me out. I had more than enough! Not only was I able to complete my baking, but she made me happy just knowing how nice people can be.

I was pleasantly surprised with the wonderful service I received today. I had gone into the store to buy my daughter some tights, but unfortunately, I had picked two pairs in sizes too small. Although I had ripped the packaging in opening one of them, when I returned them this morning the sales person on cash was extremely friendly and helpful. I was able to exchange them for sizes that do fit. I appreciate this good service tremendously, it means a lot and since I live in Grimsby it is so handy to be able to pick up what I need and not drive out of town. I will continue to shop at Giant Tiger in Grimsby and will tell all of my friends and family of my experience.

I was in your Brockville location and had seen a faux-leather bench/chair, that was adorable and the price was just right. Much to my disappointment, they were all sold out and the only one that remained was the display model. I approached one of the employees and asked if I could purchase the display model, he claimed no, but was more than willing to order one for me! He was very pleasant and took my info. To my surprise, Jason had called me on Thursday and my chair was in. When we went that evening to pick it up, he put it by the entrance and all the staff were aware that I was to pick it up. I was treated very well, and I received what I had wanted in a timely fashion. I will continue to shop there for that reason. I enjoy the treasures you find, and the staff there are very professional! Thank you for your time, as well as a great shopping experience.

For many years now I have been a dedicated Giant Tiger shopper and I just have to say how much you have helped me, being a retiree on a limited budget. I try to fulfill most of my household needs, groceries, clothing, etc. at your stores. I have been a loyal customer in Glencoe (now closed), Strathroy, Midland and Wasaga Beach. Please keep up the excellent work. You have many happy customers who are very happy to shop in a truly Canadian company.

I can't get the variety of Chapman’s ice cream like I can at Giant Tiger. I have sent more people to your store to buy that and once they go, there is no stopping them with lots of other good things. I would like to let you know that this morning my 2 year old daughter and I visited your Ogilvie Road store. When arriving at the cash, I noticed there was only one cash register open and there was a line-up. I noticed a cashier that seemed to be preparing to open and right away, called us over! He was very kind to help us out so quickly! I have had great service from him (Jose) in the past also! I remembered him giving my daughter a Giant Tiger super-ball just before Christmas! I was so surprised and happy by this! Your store and employees are absolutely wonderful! My daughter and I had a great time yet again at this Giant Tiger store!! Your employees are amazing! I would like to comment on the staff at the Giant Tiger store at 8380 Wyandotte St. East in Windsor Ontario. The service is overwhelming! The staff goes out of their way to meet my personal shopping needs. When you leave the store you feel like they really care about your business. The store is clean and run very efficiently. I love the Regina east store! It is really handy to my home and I can get almost everything I need by stopping once and avoiding bad traffic at the same time! The other thing I should address is the staff....they are absolutely wonderful! I have never had a cashier in a bad mood, angry or otherwise. Everyone that works there is very pleasant and helpful... It is nice to shop there because of this. We really do need more happy people working with the public..... it certainly isn't always easy, but they make it really wonderful!!

I would just like to say how much I love your store in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The staff are very friendly and helpful, especially two young boys who work there that are always willing to go out of their way to help me and the other customers. They are always working hard every time I go in and I usually see them all over the store filling things and tidying up. The little baskets you have at your stores are perfect for last minute shopping and I am always offered one at one point when I am in the store. I would like to thank the staff at the store for their friendliness and swiftness, I do not get there very often but when I do it is always a fun and wonderful environment.

I recently visited your store in Oromocto, N.B. What a change to walk into a store as bright and clean as this one. It was a pleasure to shop in and the staff was very friendly and helpful. It was in the evening and when you come into the parking lot you could see into the store windows instead of other stores that blanket the windows and try to make the store look like a dungeon. Good work on both the manager and staff.

Excellent!!!! My all time favourite store. Your merchandise is the tops! The service is fabulous. It is like shopping at home if you will. The prices are great, the clothes are fabulous, and the causes are superb. I bought a bathrobe for the cure. I am at GT almost every day much to my hubby's chagrin and I always find something new and it is never boring there. Keep up the great work.

I just LOVE the Giant Tiger stores. They offer such a variety of good quality merchandise. I live in Newmarket, Ontario and use "our store" every day. The staff in Newmarket are some of the friendliest I have come across. It’s great to have a truly Canadian store to shop in. Keep up the good work.

I just want to say a big thank you to your store for keeping plus size fashions that are beautiful. I frequent Giant Tiger three times each week and each time I find new and beautiful fashions. I now do all my grocery shopping at Giant Tiger. It's my one stop store now. And I love that your stores have produce so I don' t have to go anywhere else. I am just really impressed with your store and the merchandise and the prices are fantastic too. And a few weeks ago I lost my cell phone in your store. The next day went back to the store and an employee had found it in the parking lot and left it at customer service. I was so impressed. The staff is great and very friendly-always saying "have a great day." I am so impressed with your store. And I have told my mom about your store so now I have to shop for her too (she lives out of town). So once a week I do all her shopping at Giant Tiger. I would like to thank your Mississauga store and its employees for being wonderful people to deal with. In late years, service standards have fallen dreadfully in Ontario - messy stores, rude, incompetent, clueless employees, dirt, etc. Giant Tiger is a striking example of how a store should be run and of pleasant and professional employees. It is clean, pricing is as advertised, and generally I am very very happy shopping there. (I do this pretty much 4-5 times a week.) THANK YOU!

With you, this is certainly not the case! Hats off to you and your store. Giant Tiger is my favourite store, there is a little bit of everything at reasonable prices. This is why I always start my shopping at the Tiger. This includes food (now there is fresh produce, genius!), lingerie, clothes, etc... it is extremely pleasant to shop at your store.

I was recently part of a survey that asked where I shop most often? Of course the answer was supposed to be a big retail store but my answer was Giant Tiger. The person on the other end replied that she would have to add that one to her list of stores. I thought how lucky I was to have such a great place to get a great selection of things all in one place near to my home! Thank You Giant Tiger!

I love shopping at Giant Tiger. I prefer shopping there over any other major department store. The clothes are great and the prices are even greater. We can afford to shop at other stores, but I still prefer Giant Tiger.

A few weeks ago, I approached my local Giant Tiger store manager and asked if it was possible for him to order in a product for me that I discovered from the manufacturer was seasonal and sold by three retailers in Canada. I am a workshop presenter for a not-for-profit organization that delivers science in 25,000+ classrooms throughout Ontario every year, and I needed about 12,000 Sip’n’Dip Straws of all things (a summertime product) for one of our Grade 1 topics. Without hesitation, Joel investigated his resources and was able to not only find the 12 cases (nearly 15,000 single straws) that I needed but he had them delivered to his store in Newmarket quickly and was always in touch with me to let me know how my request was being handled. Joel is an exemplary employee for Giant Tiger and takes customer service to a whole new level. You are very lucky to have him. I am delighted every time I shop at Giant Tiger. Staff members are irreproachably polite and have genuine smiles. Furthermore, there is a lot of merchandise that my wife and I like, as well as great values and a lot of choice. As previous foreman with a staff of 82 people, I can guarantee that you have an excellent staff working at the Neufchâtel store on Bastien Boulevard. This store is extremely clean and your shelves and racks are always well stocked as soon as the merchandise is sold. My wife and I would like to applaud your staff’s efforts to help people in need during the telethons and many worthwhile causes. Now you understand why we admire you; you are a great EXAMPLE to follow.

This is the first time I received your flyer. So nice to receive it via e-mail. Hope I get it every week. I never miss going to our Giant Tiger in Midland, Ontario - at least once a week. I am very familiar with all the staff and management, they go out of their way to be friendly, courteous and helpful. I can’t say enough about them they are just great. I do a lot of shopping in this store. The specials are always available. There is a wonderful atmosphere in this store, the staff seem happy and content.

I was thinking the next time my best friend comes over we could go shopping, and I did not have very much money so I thought, “What place is really cheap, but has extremely cute clothes.” and I said “Giant Tiger!” I also get blankets, clothes, webkinz and a ton of a lot more things!

I have an electric scooter and I just run across town and open the electric door, scoot inside and shop till I get all the groceries I need for the week. I spend about $25-40 every Friday as long as the sun is shining. It’s such a friendly group of people. Just ask and they are there showing me where every thing is located in the store. Today I bought a pack of chicken burgers for my freezer. I get everything I need at Giant Tiger. It’s the best. Love the prices. My wife goes there too. She gets me my regular breakfast stuff there like cereal, milk and fruit (bananas etc). I don’t know what else I can say other then I love it. It’s my store.
