Manager, Direct Imports - Montreal, Quebec

Overview: As the Manager of Direct Imports you will be responsible for overseeing the Import operations in our Montreal Softgoods Division. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who has a passion for fashion and enjoys working in a dynamic, fast-paced and customer driven environment. Your strong retail clothing and/or imports background encompassing proven knowledge and experience in product development and sourcing will be paramount in the execution of many of your functions which will include sourcing factories, product specs, negotiating FOB for quality of goods and on time delivery to achieve company’s overall objectives. The successful applicant is result oriented, creative and highly energetic. Your polished communication and interpersonal skills will allow you to actively contribute to the growth of our company and direct import programs by making fashion driven consumers choose the Giant Tiger banner as a destination of choice.
Job Highlights
- Highlights: Develop and execute a strategy for Softgoods imports
- Source cost effective and reliable factories, including research new countries from which to source
- Negotiate factory space, price of yarn/fabric/accessories and quality when sourcing new factories
- Interact with the buying teams to identify Direct Import opportunities for future season
- Monitor the Quality Control abroad to ensure inspection is done at all stages of production
- Develop, document and communicate Import process and Import Planning Calendar that maximizes efficiency and productivity
- Manage the Direct Import team
Job Requirements
- Job Requirements:
- 10 years experience in Direct Importing, Product Development, Sourcing etc. for large portfolios or a combination of experience and post secondary education in a related field
- Strong negotiating skills and an understanding of the finesse and subtle nuances needed in negotiating large accounts
- Proven leadership skills with strength in managing and developing/building a team
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal, including presentation skills)
- Excellent computer skills, primarily using Microsoft Excel, Word. Experience using AS/400 an asset
- Outstanding analytical skills with the ability to work under tight deadlines with changing priorities
- Will be required to travel
- Bilingualism an asset
