As a Fashion Buyer within Giant Tiger’s Fashion Buying department you will play a pivotal role within our organization. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who has a passion for fashion and enjoys working in a dynamic, fast-paced and customer driven environment. Your strong retail background encompassing proven knowledge and experience in product development, advertising, sales, buying, budgeting and planning will be paramount in the execution of many of your functions. Job Highlights

  • Product development of Private Label programs
  • Analyze competition, trends, growth opportunities and recommend appropriate strategies to maintain competitiveness within the industry
  • Source relevant and profitable new items and vendors domestically, US market and overseas
  • Conduct domestic and foreign market and product research creating exclusive product and a unique shopping experience for the customer
  • Develop product assortment that addresses customer needs and company objectives
  • Negotiate costs and discounts to ensure stores are maximizing profits at competitive retails
  • Develop points of leverage to use in negotiations to improve category results
  • Conduct weekly sales reviews and take action to improve category results
  • Execute category, item and seasonal strategies
  • Execute seasonal and basic strategies within established timelines
  • Identify key relevant items and retails for flyer
  • Source and negotiate vendor allowance for items that will contribute to established themes

Job Requirements

  • 10 years fashion buying experience in managing large portfolios or a combination of experience and post secondary education in Fashion Buying
  • Strong negotiating skills and an understanding of the finesse and subtle nuances needed in negotiating large accounts
  • Proven leadership skills with strength in managing and developing/building a team
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal, including presentation skills)
  • Excellent computer skills, primarily using Microsoft Excel, Word. Experience using AS/400 an asset
  • Outstanding analytical skills with the ability to work under tight deadlines with changing priorities
  • Will be required to travel
  • Bilingualism (English and French) an asset
